Remember when Pokemon Go came out and it was all the rage for that one summer? I'm married to a Pokemon nerd so we continued to play probably longer than most, but eventually it faded out of our lives.
Then we moved to Sweden. We lived in downtown Västerås and I don't know what prompted us to open the game again but when we did, we found that we could reach three different PokeStops from our apartment. Two of them and a gym could be reached just by sitting on the couch.
My Pokemon nerd husband quickly converted our two little kids into pokemon fanatics and then because I adore them all–that's how my life became immersed in Pokemon for two years.
It was that first winter in Sweden that I picked up a crochet hook for the first time in more than 10 years and started stitching together a hotpad, hats, and eventually mittens with second hand yarn and a lot of YouTube videos.
When I ventured into combining Pokemon and yarn, I made a PokeBall first.

And then a Greatball.

I made a lot of mistakes but you could still tell what it was so I decided to immediately skip 10 levels of difficulty and jump straight into making a very complicated pokemon for each kid for Christmas.
I followed patterns this pattern and felt completely out of my depth the whole time. I texted this in progress picture to my sister to laugh about how it looked like a demented duck.
I'm a little embarrassed to show the pictures because I can see how much of a beginner I was, but also I'm trying to be proud of my first crocheted amigurumi babies.
Completed Shiny Charizard

I followed this pattern and have since learned to not take pictures on top of the stove.
Completed Reshiram

Here is my most recent Pokemon related custom order in contrast.
I think I've improved ☺️
